Human and Animal Rights

The International Journal of Health Studies (Undergoing change to Shahroud Journal of Medical Sciences) (IJHS (Undergoing change to SJMS)) up the highest ethical standards in research involving subjects and animals. Compliance with ethical guidelines is essential for the publication of research. Below are the key components of our policy:

Ethical Considerations

  1. Ethical Framework

   - All research submitted to IJHS (Undergoing change to SJMS) must be conducted within an appropriate ethical framework. If there is any suspicion that the research has not adhered to these standards, the Editors may reject the manuscript and/or contact the authors' ethics committee for clarification.

  1. Editor Discretion

   - In rare cases, the Editor may reject a manuscript on ethical grounds if serious concerns arise regarding the ethics of the study, regardless of whether ethics committee approval has been obtained.

Research Involving Human Subjects

  1. Compliance with Guidelines

   - Research involving human subjects, human material, or human data must be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.

  1. Ethics Committee Approval

   - Authors must provide evidence of approval from an appropriate ethics/bioethics committee for research involving human subjects.

  1. Justification for New Procedures

   - When reporting the use of a new procedure or tool in a clinical setting (e.g., in technical advances or case reports), authors must justify their choice to use the new method over standard clinical practice to meet patient needs.

   - If the new procedure is already approved for clinical use at the authors' institution, this justification is not required.

  1. Informed Consent

   - Authors are expected to have obtained ethics committee approval and informed patient consent for any experimental use of a novel procedure or tool, especially where a clear clinical advantage was not evident prior to treatment.

Research Involving Animals

  1. Animal Welfare

   - Research involving animals must comply with relevant guidelines regarding ethical treatment and welfare of animals, ensuring that pain and distress are minimized.

  1. Ethics Committee Approval

   - Authors must provide documentation of approval from an animal ethics committee, where applicable.

By adhering to these ethical guidelines, authors contribute to the integrity and quality of research published in IJHS, ensuring the protection of human and animal rights throughout their studies.
